The boys who qualified for state had an amazing meet, finishing in the top 10 in each event. Alonzo Newbern started off the night missing out on the finals of the 100 by .06, but he placed 10th overall. They did not let this disappoint the team, as Alonzo responded 30 minutes later by running a 21.54 in the 200 to qualify 6th in the 200. Alonzo would come back later that night to improve to 4th place in the rain! The 4 x 100 m Relay overcame much to place 9th overall. We were in the first heat with only 3 teams, we had a different lineup each level of the tournament, and still ran a season best 42.21 to place 9th. Jemison Bertram, Zach Anderson, Alfonzo Newbern, and Alonzo Newbern ran at the state meet, but Nick Bosworth and Antonio Leonard both ran at the sectional and regional, so are big part of this All State team. Max Malloy continued the Lions impressive night by running to a 7th place finish the fastest 1600 race in state meet history. His 4:12.01 would have won the event many years! Great job Lions on your 25th place finish and bringing home several all state awards.
